Phoenix Gallery Topeka is a regional fine art and fine craft gallery located in Topeka, Kansas.  We represent over 150 of the finest artisans in the state of Kansas. We also represent many nationally acclaimed artists outside oef Kansas. Specializing in artists within a five state demographoc of the Great Plains States and California. 

Expanding, nationally awarded art gallery and fine craft retail store is currently seeking a motivated full time employee to handle customer service, gallery sales, day to day retail operations,  website maintenance, and art placement outside sales. This position reports to the Executive Director.  The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills plus the ability to engage our clientele in a positive arts related experience.

Position is responsible for customer service, sales quotas, follow-up and customer retention, gallery cleanliness, catalogue organization, display window dressing, visual merchandise presentations, exhibit installation and general gallery upkeep.

The ideal candidate will be flexible, a quick learner, and a creative problem solver with the ability to handle special projects and gallery exhibits that may be extraordinary. Must have a positive attitude, be a self-starter, well dressed and possess charisma and charm. Excellent customer service skills and follow through with strong organizational skills a must.  Knowledge of art history and the ability to educate our clientele regarding the artists we represent and their works imperative.

Qualifications:

4 year college degree in Marketing, Management, Fine Arts or related field.

2 years experience in retail sales, gallery stewardship and or collections keeping.

2+ years experience in management/ supervisory experience.

-Must be available 40+ hours a week including weekends.

-Must be Proficient in Excel, Word, Works, digital imagery, website applications, digital camera use to take pictures of artworks, Microsoft Office products, Adobe Illustrator or Publisher, Web site development, (Dream Weaver or similar), Quick-books and desk-top publishing.

-The assistant to the Director must possess excellent writing skills and the ability to create press releases and other artist related bios and informational materials with the ability to make web-ready.

-Must be able to work some nights, all weekends plus most holidays. Includes Christmas Eve, and the day after Christmas. Excluding Christmas Day. No exceptions. We will begin to be open on Sundays from October through the Holidays.

-Must have a valid drivers license and must be able to deliver artworks in the Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City and out of town markets. 
-Must be able hang paintings, get on ladders, change light bulbs, lift somewhat heavy sculptures, and hang paintings.

-Must be able to dig in and clean; including repainting gallery walls between exhibits.

-Must be punctual and courteous with the ability to manage and supervise subordinates.

-Knowledge of art history, Kansas art history and international art movements a must; we will train regarding individual artists we represent.

Preferred Qualifications:

E-commerce or Ebay skills a plus; Power Point

Arts Education programming skills will integrate with Prairie Renaissance Arts, Inc.

Museum custom framing skills and the ability to build frames and cut mats.

Prior experience in sales training and or commissioned sales a plus

This position supports the Gallery Director and the Assistant to the Gallery Director; reports to the Assistant to the Director. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills plus the ability to engage our clientele in a positive arts related experience.

 

Position is responsible for interfacing and being able to perform tasks that the Assistant Director is also responsible for or is delegated portions of, supervised by the Assistant Director. Duties include but are not limited to, customer service, sales, follow-up and customer retention, gallery cleanliness, catalogue organization, display window dressing, visual merchandising, exhibit installation and general gallery upkeep.
